Research shows that sugar contributes to as much illness and suffering as other legal addictions, but suffers none of their social ostracism. Smokers huddle outside. Alcoholics have their own support groups. Sugar addicts … well, someone at the office is always bringing them sugary treats.

Your breath attracts them. Unfortunately. “They” are mosquitoes. Like other insects, such as hornets, black flies, ticks, gnats and fleas, they’re part of the ecosystem. They’re an important food source for frogs, fish and birds, but annoying to humans and they can spread disease.
Almost 40 percent of the food we eat is pollinated by insects — mostly by honeybees. Bee populations, however, have been in decline for years worldwide, weakened by a degraded environment that makes them vulnerable to mites and viruses.
One of the most common ailments encountered by doctors is headache. More than 40 million people in this country suffer from severe headaches, according to the Center for Disease Control, and the number is increasing steadily.
