As a PCC member, shopper, class enrollee, event attendee, service provider or curious browser of our website, your trust means a lot to us. This privacy policy (“Policy”) explains how information about you is collected, used and disclosed by Puget Consumers Co-op, doing business as PCC Community Markets (“PCC”) when you become a member of PCC, access or use our website or other online or mobile services or applications (which we call our “Services”), shop in our stores, or otherwise interact with us.

We encourage you to review this Policy regularly to stay informed about our privacy practices, as PCC may change this Policy from time to time. What information we collect

We collect information that you provide directly to us when you sign up for membership, classes or events, when you use our Services, when you donate to our donation programs, when you provide services to PCC, when you shop our stores, and when you email, call or contact us through social media.

We automatically collect some information when you use your membership while shopping, when purchasing a cooking class, signing up for an event, when you redeem a PCC coupon in a store or when you log into your member account. We automatically collect information using cookies, pixels and third-party provided analytics when you visit the PCC website.

How we use that information

PCC uses the information you provide to us, or we collect from you to provide better services to you by keeping your membership information up to date, processing sales and returns in store, analyzing trends and usage patterns, and responding to your comments or questions. We also use the anonymized information we receive from third-party analytics providers to understand generally (by city and state) where people who access our website live, what content on the website is of interest to them, and how to improve the website. We also use information collected to determine what products are of interest to our shoppers and to deliver promotions and member-only surprise and delight offers.

What information we collect

Information you provide to us

We collect information you provide directly to us. For example, we collect information when you become a member of PCC; shop in our stores; access and use our Services; sign up for or participate in classes, events, newsletters, promotions, sweepstakes or mailing lists; respond to customer surveys; engage with us over social media platforms; and when you email, call or otherwise communicate with us.

The types of information we may collect include your name, address, phone number, member number, fax number, email address, ZIP code, payment information, demographic information, information about your shopping, purchases, interests and preferences and any other information you choose to provide. If you access and post to our social media pages, we may collect posted photos, videos and social media usernames.

If you sign up for a PCC Cooks class, enroll your child in our Cooks’ Camp program or submit an incident report related to our Services, we may collect additional information that you provide to us, including but not limited to allergies, health and dietary restrictions and issues and emergency contact information.

In some cases, we may also collect information you provide about others, such as when you purchase a gift card for someone and request that we deliver it to them, register someone else to attend a PCC Cooks class or provide emergency contact information. We will use this information to fulfill your requests and communicate with that person regarding the transaction, if applicable, but we will not send marketing communications to these individuals unless they separately consent to receive these types of communications from us.

Information we collect automatically

When you access or use our Services, shop in our stores or otherwise interact with us, we automatically collect certain information, including:

  • Transaction information. When you purchase or return a product, register for events or classes, or make a donation, we collect information about the transaction, such as product details, transaction price and the date and location of the transaction.
  • Usage and log information. We obtain information about your use of our website, including the type of browser you use, access times, pages viewed, the page you visited before navigating to our Services and browsing activity.
  • Device information. We may collect information about the computer or mobile device you use to access our Services, such as your device’s Internet Protocol (IP) address, hardware model, operating system, unique device identifiers, browser type and mobile network information.
  • Location information. In accordance with your device permissions, we may collect information about the precise location of your device using third-party analytics when you consent to the collection of this information.   • Video information. We may collect video information via security cameras we deploy in our stores and through body cameras worn by security guards.
  • Information collected by cookies and other tracking technologies. We may use or engage third parties to provide analytics using cookies, pixels web beacons and other tracking technologies to collect information about you and your interaction with our Services whether by directly visiting our website, or by clicking through on a search result or on an ad for PCC. These cookies, pixels and analytics collect anonymized information about your interactions with the PCC Services and event-level technical information, including your browsing behavior, a timestamp, pages reviewed and time spent, your device and browser type, and, generalized location information (city and state where you are located at the time of access and, if your device permissions allow, your location). Cookies are small data files stored on your hard drive or in device memory that help us improve our Services and your experience, see which areas and features of our Services are popular and count visits. Web beacons (also known as “pixel tags” or “clear GIFs”) are electronic images that we use on our Services and in our emails to help deliver cookies, count visits, and understand usage and campaign effectiveness.

Information we collect from other sources

We may also receive information about you from other sources and combine or link that with information we have about you. For example, we may collect anonymized demographic and other information from third party sources and information from third party social media platforms (such as Facebook) if you make certain content and information publicly available, such as photos, videos and profile information.

 

How we use your information

We use the information we collect about you for a variety of purposes, including to:

  • administer your membership account and communicate with you about your membership and PCC (including information about the Annual Members Meeting, member special events and board elections and “member only” offers;
  • provide and deliver Services, process transactions and send you transaction-related information, including confirmations, recall notices, invoices, updates, security alerts and support and administrative messages;
  • respond to your comments and questions and provide customer service;
  • deliver general and personalized email messages, content, features and promotional offers to personalize your experience while using our Services, and communicate with you about products, services, offers, promotions, classes, contests, news, surveys, upcoming events and other information we think may be of interest to you;
  • investigate and help prevent fraudulent transactions, security incidents and other illegal activities;
  • provide, maintain and improve our Services;
  • monitor and analyze trends, usage of our Services and stores, and activities of our customers and members;
  • conduct research and analysis, including through surveys and focus groups;
  • target advertisements to you on third-party platforms and websites;
  • process and deliver contest, promotion and sweepstakes entries and prizes;
  • link or combine with other information we receive from third parties to help understand your needs and provide you with better customer service; and
  • carry out any other purpose conveyed to you when the information was collected.

 

How we share your information

Providing good customer service to our shoppers and members is important to PCC and we are not in the business of selling data to others. We may share your information with third-party service providers, contractors, agents or vendors that we employ or partner with to provide certain business functions, such as:

  • completing transactions or performing services on our behalf, such as fulfilling and shipping orders, processing orders, preventing fraud or delivering email;
  • analyzing customer shopping behavior to create and send more compelling email messaging and promotions, including personalized messages and advertising;
  • surveying customer opinions about our stores and Services;
  • providing paid search results on third-party search platforms;
  • providing digital advertising on third-party platforms based on location in the Seattle metropolitan area or affinity of the consumer;
  • processing and transmitting to the issuing bank transaction information when credit cards are used to purchase from our stores;
  • mailing or emailing information to members and customers about co-op events (such as the Annual Members meeting and election of trustees), member-only promotions, discounts or co-branded events, and co-op news;
  • updating, auditing or correcting member or customer contact lists.

Your information may also be shared with third parties:

  • when you sign up for and participate in the interactive areas of our Services. Information that you choose to share (such as your username, comments, posts, photos, stories, product reviews and any other information you provide) may be displayed publicly on our Services and on third-party websites and social media sites;
  • in response to a request for information if we believe disclosure is in accordance with any applicable law, regulation or legal process, or as otherwise required by any applicable law, rule or regulation;
  • to enforce our agreements, policies and Terms of Use, or to protect the safety, rights, and property of PCC, our members, staff, customers or any other person;
  • in connection with, or during negotiations of, any actual or proposed merger, acquisition, debt financing, sale of company assets, restructuring of all or a portion of our business, as well in the event of any insolvency, receivership or bankruptcy; and
  • with your consent.

We may also share anonymized, aggregated or de-identified information with third-party service providers to facilitate analysis of the effectiveness of business functions, help us improve our Services or for other legitimate business reasons. This information cannot reasonably be used to identify you.

We store personal information associated with your membership account indefinitely. We store other personal information for as long as necessary to carry out the purposes for which we originally collected it and for other business purposes explained in this Policy.

 

How we secure your information

We care about keeping information about you safe. Although no security system or website can guarantee the complete security of your information, PCC has implemented and maintains reasonable security practices appropriate to the information we maintain to protect data from misuse, unauthorized access or disclosure. We also comply with payment card industry data security standards for the processing of credit and debit card transactions.

Third party features, advertising and websites

Third parties interact with our Services in various ways. These third parties are independent of PCC and this privacy policy does not apply to the information they may collect about you and your interaction with them through our Services.

Advertising, analytics and services

We engage third parties to provide targeted advertising, paid search results and analytics services. Third party analytics services we use also may use the information collected from your access to Services to deliver advertising targeted to your interests on other companies’ sites or mobile apps and to analyze and track data, determine the popularity of certain content, and better understand your online activity.

Social sharing features

Our Services may offer social sharing features or other integrated tools (for example, Facebook, Instagram or Twitter), which let you share actions you take on our Services with other media, and vice versa. When you use these features and tools, you may share information with your friends or the public, depending on the settings you establish with the third party that provides the social sharing feature. Our services may contain links to other sites, including sites on which PCC advertises. How you can control your information and privacy preferences

Your information

You may either update or correct your member or non-member online account information here on our website or by filling out a member update form and either mailing it to us or delivering it to any PCC location. You may update or correct your online account information by logging into your account and updating your information online. If you wish to deactivate your member account or online account you may email us at privacy@pccmarkets.com.; however, doing so will result in you not receiving notices of member benefits (such as member-only offers, invitations to member-only events, election information and your ballot, and information on any patronage dividend authorized by the Board of Trustees) or promotional or other communications that may be of value to you. We may retain information about you as required by law or for legitimate business purposes.

Newsletters, emails and other promotional communications

You may opt out of receiving promotional communications from PCC by following the instructions in those communications; however, doing so may result in you not receiving notice of member benefits (such as member-only offers, invitations to member-only events, election information and your ballot, and information on any patronage dividend authorized by the Board of Trustees) or promotional or other communications of value to you. You may also remove yourself from our email list by clicking on the unsubscribe or update profile link presented in all promotional emails, including newsletters, we send to our customers. If you opt out of receiving promotional communications, we may still send you non-promotional emails, such as emails about your purchases, account, membership or our ongoing business relations.

Location information

The settings of your Internet browser or mobile device may allow you to stop sharing your precise location with PCC or others (but generalized information, such as city and state, may still be shared). You can also stop collection of location information in connection with mobile applications by following the standard uninstall process pr by changing device settings or settings in specific applications to not allow tracking and location information.

PCC is based in the Seattle metropolitan area, State of Washington, in the United States and the information we collect is governed by United States law.
