in-person classes

What is the difference between demonstration and hands-on class formats?

Demonstration classes offer a chance for students to sit back and watch a pro at work. Hands-on classes are designed as an interactive hands-on experience with up to 16 students where the instructor guides students through the dishes. Kids’ classes are designed as hands-on.

Do I need to bring anything to class?

Digital recipes are emailed 48 hours (about 2 days) prior to class. If you would like to reference a hard copy of the recipes in class, please print them and bring them with you. For hands-on classes, please bring an apron, wear closed-toe shoes and tie long hair back. For your comfort, you may wish to dress in layers; classroom temperatures fluctuate when ovens and stoves are used.

Do we get to eat the food in class?

Yes, you will receive a generous taste of each recipe prepared in class. Most tastes are served towards the end of class, so feel free to have a snack prior to arrival if you’re worried about getting hungry! Please note that leftovers are not sent home with students.

Can we bring home leftovers?

Our classes are designed to offer a taste of each item made in class during the class time. Our hope is that what you do bring home from each class is the education obtained and the skills to make the meal at home. In certain situations, we do allow students to take home the items made in class, such as in some baking class where all items served are baked and therefore low-risk for food borne illness and easy to portion to each student in a fair way.

For a number of reasons, including cost, fair distribution, and food safety, we otherwise do not allow students to take home leftovers from class. If ever you find that you are unable to finish your portion in class, you’re welcome to ask the instructor for a to-go box to bring home your meal.

If I have any dietary restrictions, can I have the instructor make something special?

Reference the class tags (gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan) and dietary notes listed at the end of each class description to choose the class that’s right for you. Instructors diligently test their recipes before presenting them as part of a class and will prepare them as written.

Gluten-free classes have a “Gluten-Free” tag. Our teaching classrooms are not gluten-free facilities, and we cannot guarantee cross-contamination in gluten-free designated classes. Instructors in non-gluten-free classes cannot accommodate menu changes in class. It is best to email us ahead of time if you have questions.

Can I bring wine or beer to drink in the class?

Washington State law strictly regulates alcohol service in classes. Some classes feature sample-size servings of beer, wine or spirits. Alcohol is not allowed in other classes. Alcohol is permitted in our private event classes, please see details on our Private Events page for more information.

Can I go to a full class hoping that someone will not show up?

No, we cannot accommodate registration details and payments in the class. We also have no way of knowing if someone is absent or simply running late.

Do I need to be vaccinated to attend an in-person class?

No, proof of vaccination is no longer required to attend PCC Cooking Classes as of March 14, 2022.

Do I need to wear a mask?

Masks are now optional in stores and classrooms.

online classes

Online classes are offered live via the Zoom app, in both demonstration (demo) and cook-along formats. One registration for class is good for one kitchen (even if you have multiple people viewing the class). For best results, we recommend downloading Zoom in advance.

What is the difference between demonstration and cook-along class formats?

Demonstration classes offer a chance for students to sit back and watch the instructor teach. Cook-along classes are designed as an interactive hands-on experience, with a smaller class size and the instructor guiding students through the dishes. Kids’ classes are always presented in the cook-along format. Parental assistance or supervision may be needed for younger or less experienced students. Please reference the recipes for equipment and steps you may need to complete ahead of the class.

Note: Students are welcome to cook along during demo classes if they wish, but due to the timing and format, instructors may not be able troubleshoot any issues in real time.

When will I receive the Zoom link and recipes for class?

For demonstration classes, the Zoom link and recipes are emailed 4 days before class. For cook-along classes, the Zoom link, shopping list, recipes and class preparation steps are emailed 7 days before class. Be sure to check your junk/spam folder as our emails often get caught by spam or promotions filters. If you cannot find it or have not received an email from us, please email us for assistance.

Will the class be recorded?

Yes, we will share a recorded version of the class to all registered students next business day regardless of whether you attend live.

Do you offer classes for special diets? How can I tell which ingredients will be featured in class?

Reference the class tags (gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan) to choose the class that’s right for you.

For online classes, you are welcome to adjust the recipes/ingredients at home according to any dietary preferences. Please note, however, that instructors will teach and prepare the recipes as written during class and may not be able to assist with recipe adaptations. Email us in advance if you have questions about ingredients.

Can I send my child to an adult class?

We format our classes to create the best experience for the intended age group. Adult hands-on classes are open to people ages 16 and up.

My child is interested in a kids’ class for an older age group. Can I sign them up?

Our kids’ classes are formatted for the age ranges listed. While we recognize that there are varying skill levels among kids of any age, for the most successful learning experience, we ask that children attend the class for their age range.

Can I attend a kids’ class with my child?

Our kids’ classes are formatted for kids only. You may observe the class from outside the classroom, however, to ensure an independent learning environment, adults are asked not to attend kids’ classes. We do offer parent/child classes if you are interested in taking a class with your child.
