What do A&R Solar, Mighty-O Donuts, Metier Brewing, Ridwell and Tutta Bella all have in common? Aside from amazing local products and services, they are just a few of the regional businesses that make up PCC’s Partner Program. Through the PCC Member Benefit program, the co-op works with select local, like-minded businesses to offer members exclusive deals and discounts.

At the start of the year, PCC welcomed several new partners, including BECU. Last year, the local credit union held a PCC members-only webinar focused on managing finance in a crisis. It was the top-attended PCC member-only event, attracting 145 members. As a result of the enthusiasm surrounding that event, PCC invited BECU to join the Partner Program and now, co-op members can receive a new member bonus when joining BECU in addition to special offers on credit cards, HELOC loans and mortgages.

Tom Berquist, BECU’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer, recently shared with PCC some interesting background on BECU and why they are excited to be a part of the Partner Program.

What do you want PCC members and shoppers to know about BECU?

We’re a community credit union with deep roots in the Northwest. When we first started in 1935, our first loans, during the Great Depression, were to Boeing employees who needed help purchasing the tools for work. It all started with a small group of Boeing employees, who came together, pooled what little money they could spare, and started helping their fellow employees with small loans.

BECU is member-owned and so is PCC! What does that mean for BECU and how does it set you apart?

As a member-owned not-for-profit credit union, we are only as strong as our members! Our goal is to serve and enrich our members and communities: to foster economic empowerment through financial education, affordable financial services and products that support financial well-being.

PCC is excited to have you partner with the co-op this year to provide members with a unique deal. What made you want to participate?

We recognize the unique advantages of belonging to a member-owned cooperative. Members of PCC can count on fresh, premium quality products to take home to their families. Health and wellness are a common, shared goal. Similarly, BECU thrives in the financial industry as a credit union that supports the long-term financial wellness of our members and communities. Like BECU, PCC is a values-driven cooperative.

What makes the BECU offer special?

Our special offers* are designed to support holistic wellness for PCC members: in addition to the premium products PCC members receive, members can count on receiving special, quarterly offers from BECU.

What’s something unique you can share with the PCC community about BECU?

Our first deposits were stored in a tin cashbox! Since then, we’ve grown to over 1.3 million members with over $27 billion in assets. And we take giving seriously: last year, we donated more than $6.4 million to nonprofit partners throughout the Northwest. Our pledge to support racial equity is backed by a $5 million commitment over the next five years to support nonprofits focused on improving the overall emotional, physical, and financial health and well-being of the Black community.

PCC greatly appreciates BECU and all the members of the 2021 Partner Program. You can learn more about the Partner Program here. To make sure you receive these offers and more, log into your member account and subscribe here.
