Indian Split Pea Soup

Ingredients

  • 5 cups water
  • 1 cup dried split peas
  • 1/2 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cumin
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 carrot, peeled and finely diced
  • 1 lemon, quartered, for garnish

Directions

Bring water to boil over high heat in a large saucepan. Add split peas. Lower heat and cook for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until peas are soft and tender.

Add spices and carrots and continue to cook for 15 minutes. Serve each bowl with a lemon quarter to garnish soup.
