Board holds retreat, meets on Ravenna

PCC Ravenna storefront

The board spent two days at the end of October working with Miriam Carver, one of the architects of the policy governance process for lay boards of trustees. PCC’s Board has been working with this model for the past three years, and board members learned a lot about how this model can provide clear direction to both board and management, and what its limitations are as well.

They spent most of the second day drafting “Ends” policy statements. Ends policy statements are the Carver model’s equivalent of mission or organizational purpose statements. The final statements will articulate the board’s vision of the co-op’s future. Work on Ends policy will continue over the next few months, with board members communicating with the membership through articles in the Sound Consumer and other means to gather input and feedback on progress so far.

The board’s regular meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 27. At press time, the board planned to make a decision on what to do with the Ravenna building at that meeting. The board also was to consider revisions of the member benefits package. For information on either topic, please call the office at 206-547-1222.

If a final board meeting for the year is held, it will be Tuesday, December 18 at 5 p.m., with time for member comments at 7 p.m. The decision on whether or not to hold this meeting will have been made at the November 27 board meeting. Please call the office at 206-547-1222 for more information.
