Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 package phyllo dough, thawed (24 sheets)
  • 1 stick butter, melted
  • 2 cups applesauce
  • Vanilla ice cream, for serving (optional)

Directions

Preheat oven to 400º F.

Combine almonds, cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl and mix well. With a pastry brush, brush 1 phyllo sheet with butter, then sprinkle with some of the cinnamon mix. Place another phyllo sheet on top of the first.

Cut the phyllo into 3 slices, lengthwise. On the end of each phyllo strip, place 1 big tablespoon applesauce. Fold phyllo dough on top of applesauce, making a triangle. Fold in alternating triangle shapes until phyllo is wrapped around applesauce. Brush with butter. Repeat with remaining phyllo strips.

Place apple triangles on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until lightly golden and crispy.

Serve warm or at room temperature with vanilla ice cream.
