Summer children’s concert series
Bothell Landing Park

Don’t miss this brand-new children’s summer concert series! Each week will feature one of the best local “kindie” bands around, sure to get you and your youngsters up and dancing. Battle of Greenlake Volleyball Tournament

Saturday, August 5, 7 a.m.
Registration Green Lake Park

Join in one of the largest reverse co-ed doubles grass volleyball tournaments in the Pacific Northwest. In collaboration with Seattle Parks & Recreation and Greenlake Sports & Fitness, the Battle of Greenlake is a pool play format, followed by double elimination. Rainier Valley Heritage Parade & Festival

Northbound along Rainier Avenue South starting at Dawson Alaska

Join in the festivities of the 25th annual Rainier Valley Heritage Parade & Festival. PCC will be in the parade, handing out featured vendor snacks along the way.


CHOMP! Dinner in the Park

Marymoor Park

Summer Splash

Saturday, August 19, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Green Lake Small Craft Center

Make a splash in Greenlake with Windermere’s Summer Splash, in partnership with George Pocock Foundation and Seattle City Parks. Adults and kids can try canoeing, kayaking, rowing and stand-up paddleboarding and more. Cheer on the rowers during the race. Back to School Event – Shoreline School District

Saturday, August 26, 12:30 to 4 p.m.
Ridgecrest Elementary School

The Back to School Event is a community effort that provides school supplies, haircuts and clothing assistance for families in the Shoreline School District who are low-income and/or experiencing circumstances that make it challenging to prepare their children for going back to school in the fall. PCC Edmonds store staff will be hosting a make-your-own trail mix activity, where kids can customize a mix to their tastes and get inspired for the upcoming school year! Correction

The July Sound Consumer mistakenly named the PCC Community Grant winner as the Community Kitchen at Seattle Pacific University. Hunger Intervention Program (HIP) was the correct winner of the $2,000 grant.

HIP increases food security for underserved populations in North King County through nutritious meals, educational programs and advocacy. HIP operates a range of programs to address hunger including:

  • Summer and afterschool meals.
  • A community meal program for seniors.
  • Cooking Matters, a nationally recognized curriculum that helps families shop for and cook healthy meals on a low budget.

HIP will run a series of summer education, cooking and nutrition classes for youth younger than 18. The goals are increased participation at HIP’s summer meals sites to ensure more children have access to nutritious food throughout the summer, and improved access to fun, educational and skill-building opportunities for underserved youth.

By creating educational activities at the same locations where kids receive summer meals, HIP is impacting not only nutritional outcomes for this low-income population, but also increasing the kids’ educational stimulation during the summer.

The PCC grant will be used to purchase food for summer cooking and nutrition programs, including “Mini Chef ” and “Skills and Thrills” classes.

This project will serve kids living in the Lake City neighborhood and greater northeast Seattle, where 30 percent of households are considered extremely low income, and up to 85 percent of students at local public schools qualify for free and reduced-price meals.
