Your Voice, Your Vote: Upholding PCC’s Values at the Ballot Box
As a member of PCC Community Markets, you are part of something bigger than just a grocery store. You’re part of a community that values democracy, sustainability, and social responsibility. These values aren’t just buzzwords — they guide every decision we make, from the products we stock to the policies we support. This November, we have an important opportunity at the ballot box to exercise one of our core cooperative values: democratic member control. By voting, you help shape the future of our community and our planet.
While PCC doesn’t endorse candidates, we do take a stand on policy issues that align with our values. Two key initiatives on the upcoming ballot directly impact our commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable agriculture, and we urge you to consider these as you fill out your ballot.
Vote NO on Initiative 2117: Protecting Our Climate Commitment
Initiative 2117 threatens to roll back crucial protections for our air, water, forests, and farmlands. This initiative would undermine the Climate Commitment Act (CCA), a vital piece of legislation that holds the biggest polluters accountable by requiring them to pay for the environmental impact of their activities. The CCA currently generates $3.8 billion every two years for climate initiatives in Washington state, $10 million of which is directed towards climate-smart agriculture. PCC will advocate for growing CCA funding directed toward agriculture in the upcoming legislative session.
At PCC, we believe in the power of organic and regenerative farming to mitigate climate change and promote environmental health. Rolling back the CCA would shift the financial burden of pollution onto communities, workers, and families, rather than holding polluters accountable. By voting NO on Initiative 2117, we can stand up for stronger climate action and advocate for increased investment in sustainable agriculture.
Vote NO on Initiative 2066: Supporting the Transition to Clean Energy
Initiative 2066 seeks to repeal the prohibition on installing natural gas lines in new construction, a critical step in Washington’s broader transition away from fossil fuels. While existing natural gas lines and products will remain in use, this ballot initiative upholds a commitment to transition away from natural gas in favor of cleaner, more cost effective, renewable energy sources. This initiative is part of a long-term strategy to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and move towards a sustainable future.
By voting NO on Initiative 2066, you’re supporting the shift towards clean energy, lower energy costs, improved air quality and helping to ensure that new buildings in Washington are constructed with the future in mind—one that’s free from the harmful impacts of natural gas.
Why Your Vote Matters
Every vote is a chance to shape the policies that govern our lives and our environment. When you cast your ballot, you’re not just voting for or against a specific issue—you’re making your voice heard in the broader conversation about the kind of world we want to live in.
At PCC, we believe that democracy doesn’t end at the ballot box. It’s an ongoing process of engagement, education, and advocacy. This November, let’s come together as a cooperative community to support policies that protect our environment, promote sustainable agriculture, and ensure a healthy, vibrant future for all. Your voice will be especially important in the upcoming long-session of the Washington State Legislature this winter.
So, as you participate in democracy this November, remember the values that guide our co-op. Your vote is a powerful tool for upholding those values. Thank you for being an engaged member of our cooperative community.
