Recipes that are handed down from one generation to the next are often the backbone of many family traditions. In this hands-on baking class, Jeannie will share three Jewish desserts, each as rich in history as it is in taste. Combining the old with the new, Jeannie will teach students how to swap an ingredient or two to bump up the health value of these delicious treasured treats. Swirl chocolate, cinnamon or preserves into flaky pastry to make Rugelach. Learn to make flour-free Coconut Macaroons that are a favorite at Passover and Hamantaschen, traditional shortbread cookies.
With dairy, eggs and gluten.
About the instructor: Jeannie is a passionate chef and educator who is excited to help others learn to cook and thrive in the kitchen. Jeannie grew up in a very traditional Jewish family where cooking and eating special dishes for huge family meals (many times a year), was normal. Because of this Jeannie realized at a young age that she had a special talent for cooking. Her first job was cooking for a catering company at age 15. In her late 20’s Jeannie found natural, whole food, cooking and hasn’t looked back. This led Jeannie to move to NYC to take courses specific to natural foods cooking and how it affects our lives. Jeannie holds a Chef’s degree from the Natural Gourmet Institute for Health and Culinary Arts and is a certified Health Coach from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. Her intention in getting these degrees was always to teach others how to eat and cook in a way that makes them feel their best. Jeannie worked for many years as a wellness coach and cooking educator in California.
