Description

Introducing PCC's new class series: Eat with Purpose. This series partners with local community organizations to support our food system. Our first session features insights from the Coalition for Organic & Regenerative Agriculture (CORA), co-founded by PCC and Tilth Alliance. CORA advocates for organic, regenerative, and sustainable farming practices statewide.

Join CORA leaders and Washington State Senate Deputy Majority Leader, Senator Rebecca Saldaña, as they discuss outcomes from the 2024 legislative short session. Discover how CORA secured $400,000 in WSDA's 2025 budget to ease farmers' organic certification fees.

Explore themes like organic agriculture, food access, climate resilience, and waste reduction. Learn about passed bills, upcoming work, and how to advocate for a healthier community.

Join us for an informative session with food, refreshments, and networking opportunities.

About the instructor: Senator Rebecca Saldaña is the Washington State Senate Deputy Majority Leader and represents the 37th Legislative District. She is a proud Chicana of Mexican and Germanic roots who grew up in the Delridge neighborhood of Seattle and has lived and worked primarily in Seattle and Oregon. During her tenure in the Senate, Rebecca has used her experience and expertise to spearhead legislative efforts to increase equity for historically oppressed communities, protect workers’ rights, encourage sustainable development, build equitable transportation solutions, and increase voter access to elections. CORA worked with Senator Rebecca Saldaña to put $400,000 in WSDA's 2025 budget to reduce the financial burden on farmers of organic certification and inspection fees.

Melissa Spear is the Executive Director of Tilth Alliance and leads the Coalition for Organic and Regenerative Agriculture (CORA), a powerful coalition of farmers, businesses, organizations, and activists advocating for progressive programs and policies in support of organic and regenerative agriculture in Washington State. Melissa has served as Tilth Alliance’s Executive Director since December of 2018. Melissa has led non-profits working in environmental conservation and sustainability for over 20 years.

For the past decade, Joanna Grist has been a respected professional lobbyist fighting for organic agriculture and for public health, and consumer protection issues at the state level in Olympia. She lobbies for PCC Markets, Coalition for Organic and Regenerative Agriculture, Puget Sound Clean Air Agency, Outdoor School Coalition, AARP, and more. As a member of PCC for more than thirty years, Joanna believes that all the food we eat should be healthy for our families, farmworkers, fish and wildlife, and for our climate.
