In 2016, we began publishing an annual Co-op Purposes Report to share with our members and shoppers the impact we’re having against our triple bottom line in our communities and beyond. We use data to measure progress against social and environmental goals, tell the stories of partners who enable us to do what we do and reiterate the values that don’t always show up in numbers, but are often the reasons why our members and shoppers choose PCC time and again.
2022 Co-op Purposes Report
“In these complex times, we are rooted in the belief that good food is essential to nourishing and transforming communities, and that how we do things matters at least as much as what we do. We approach decisions with the values that define us as a co-op. When challenges arise, we ask what best serves PCC’s mission in the same breath that we ask what the most fiscally prudent path is.”
– Krish Srinivasan, PCC CEO & President
Part One:
Responsible Sourcing, Regenerative Operations, and Community Food Systems
Our co-op has stayed true to our 70-year history and values while applying them to modern challenges and opportunities. In 2022, this work included a significant update to our product standards, to achieving carbon negative operations, establishing our first supplier diversity and inclusion program, and — as we have for the last three decades — supporting community food systems.
With an unpredictable economic environment and a slow return to post-pandemic shopping behavior, 2022 proved to be a challenging year for our co-op. This, coupled with ongoing inflation and higher operating expenses, resulted in PCC ending the year at a loss. Despite these hardships, we remain positive about our co-op’s future.
