What’s causing crisis levels of hunger?

Across Washington, hunger relief organizations are experiencing record demand as disruptions to SNAP and WIC benefits are leaving hundreds of thousands of families throughout the state without critical food assistance. Rising food costs, shrinking food bank donations, and the loss of federal support have stretched our hunger relief systems to their limits.

How is PCC responding?

As a community-owned co-op, PCC is joining partners and neighbors to help families access nutritious food during this critical time. We’re expanding our seasonal Neighborhood Food Drive from one week this month to instead run through the end of November, as well as directing $50,000 toward local food purchasing for local hunger relief organizations. We’ve also invited our suppliers, distributors and community partners to join us in raising additional funds to stock regional food bank shelves during this critical time. Our partners at the BECU Foundation have kicked things off with a $50,000 contribution to Harvest Against Hunger.

PCC will continue to strengthen long-term food security through several initiatives including Growing for Good, which provides local farms with early season contracts to grow fresh produce for hunger relief organizations. Growing for Good, the ongoing recipient of PCC’s customer round-up donations, is fully funded through 2025 and into 2026. For the next two months, round-up donations will instead support our regional hunger relief surge effort, helping food banks meet increased community need. Round-up contributions will return to Growing for Good in January 2026.

How you can take action

Join PCC and our partners in this cooperative effort to help ensure no one in our community goes hungry. 100% of your donation will go directly to stock shelves at local hunger relief organizations.
Donate Now

Right now, financial contributions have the greatest impact, allowing local hunger relief organizations to purchase the foods they need most at wholesale prices, stretching every dollar to serve more of our neighbors.

You can also support your neighborhood food bank during your next PCC visit by contributing to the food drive and donating at checkout. Every dollar, and every act of cooperation, helps feed our community.

SNAP and WIC disruption or not, hunger in our community is at a critical point, and families need support now. In this dynamic moment of community need, we will continue to keep you updated as new partners join this effort and as needs evolve. Thank you for standing with PCC and our partners to support families and neighbors in need. Your generosity makes a real difference in our community.
