PCC to Open Small Format Store in Downtown Seattle this July

2025 News

(SEATTLE, April 15, 2025) – PCC Community Markets (PCC or the co-op), a 72-year-old retail grocery cooperative serving the Puget Sound region, will open its first-ever small format store in downtown Seattle this July.

Located at 4th & Union, PCC Corner Market will be an innovative, smaller format store designed around the needs of downtown workers and residents. The new store marks the co-op’s return to the heart of the city, occupying a smaller footprint at its original downtown location which closed in January 2024.

PCC Corner Market will deliver an experience distinct from PCC’s full-service grocery stores, with approximately 6,000 square feet tailored to meet the unique needs of the downtown community. A curated selection of fresh, hot and prepared foods will be available alongside a limited assortment of grocery and pantry staples, all in line with PCC’s industry-leading product and ingredient quality standards.

“With PCC Corner Market, our mission is to offer the same amazing food that PCC is known for in a refreshing new format that is readily accessible and easy to navigate,” said Krish Srinivasan, PCC’s President and CEO. “We are excited about returning to the city center, and to once again be serving the many residents and workers there who were regulars at our previous store. And, I want to thank our co-op’s incredible staff members for contributing their energy, ideas and humor to the fun process of determining the new store’s name.”

Open Monday through Friday, PCC Corner Market will offer easy options for breakfast, lunch and after-work grab-and-go items. The small format concept was developed using insights from PCC’s previous downtown store where prepared foods and healthy snacks emerged as customer favorites. Offering everything from fresh sushi and popular PCC Market Kitchen deli items to a variety of snacks, ice cream, beer and wine, PCC Corner Market is designed to elevate breakfast and lunch and offer convenient grab-and-go items for after-work social events.

“PCC Corner Market will play an essential role in the continued revitalization of our city’s business district,” said Srinivasan. “It’s a smaller version of your neighborhood co-op, serving a big need in downtown Seattle.”

The return of PCC to downtown is being celebrated by local community leaders.

“Welcome back, PCC! Downtown runs on people, and people need great food options. Adding more grocery stores is especially important as we welcome more downtown residents. The opening of PCC Corner Market in Rainier Tower adds another option for the more than 108,000 residents that call our downtown neighborhood home and the more than 89,000 workers in our city’s core,” said Markham McIntyre, Director for Seattle’s Office of Economic Development.

“PCC’s return to Rainier Tower is another momentum builder for downtown Seattle,” said Rachel Smith, president and CEO of the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. “Downtown employees and residents alike, including Chamber employees from our office in Rainier Tower, are thrilled to have another food and grocery option, and the reopening is truly a signal that downtown Seattle is on its way to being better than ever. Thank you to PCC Community Markets for being an active Chamber member and community leader, and for bringing an amazing team and excellent store conditions back downtown — we are so excited!”

“We expect PCC Corner Market to be enthusiastically received and well-positioned to meet the unique needs of our Rainier Square community including tenants, residents and visitors,” said Walt Ingram, Chairman & CEO of Wright Runstad & Company. “We applaud PCC leadership for their innovation and commitment to downtown Seattle and Rainier Square as a whole.”

PCC Corner Market is on track to open by mid-July. Additional details will be available in the coming months.
